AP Human Geography

Course Description

AP Human Geography is a yearlong course that introduces students to a systematic study of geographic processes to understand spatial patterns and concepts of the world in which we live. In addition, the course is designed to meet or exceed the demands of a one-semester college level human geography course.

Course Framework

 This course framework provides a description of the course requirements necessary for student success, specifying what students must know, be able to do, and understand to qualify for college credit. The course framework include two essential components:

  1. Course Skills: The corse skills are central to the study and practice of human geography. Students should have the opportunity to develo and apply the describe skills on a regular basis ove span of the course.

  2. Course Content: The course content is organized into commonly taught units of study that  provide a suggested sequence for the course. This content is grounded in big ideas, which are cross-cutting concepts that build conceptual understanding and spiral throughout the course. (College Board)

Test Description

AP Human Geography Exam assesses student understanding of the skills and learning objectives outlined in the course framework. The exam is 2 hours and 15 minutes long includes 60 multiple-choice questions and 3 free-response questions.  (College Board)
